QUESTION #8
From the Q&A Column in
Agency Ideas® newsletter
Q>
No one in our office has the computer skills to do what
we need when it comes to desktop publishing, database marketing, and the
Internet. Should we create a new position or train a present employee?
A>
Every agency needs someone that possesses these
21st century skills. And in filling the position, the best place to look is outside of
the office. This is because its easier to teach a marketing person about insurance
than it is the other way around. Besides, youll appreciate someone who can bring in
a fresh viewpoint and ideas. The first place to look for this individual is at your local
college. If youre fortunate youll find a marketing major who can intern with
you part-time, for minimum wage, in exchange for job experience and college
credit. You can then hire the person full-time, after graduation. Tip: The
Hiring & Managing Inexperienced
Producers™ CD-ROM contains ideas and a template for establishing an Agency
marketing Intern Program.
